eGuiders featured on Blip.tv

Here's my old NYU buddy Marc Ostrick featured in a big new video interview on Blip.tv. The interview has Marc talking about his new project eGuiders.com, a site that brings the finest web videos, handpicked by media mavens, right to your digital doorstep.

I'm one of the core eGuiders on the site so you can be sure I dig what's going on over there. I think you might too. Have a peek.

Enjoy the video!

From my Twin Towers files... "New ol' New York"

(Click pic quick for juicy view)

I created this photo/poem montage not long after 9/11.

When I lived in NYC (91-95) I used to take walks down to the Twin Towers and go to the observatory at the top to see the city from the perspective of a drop of water in the clouds. It was a great way to humble oneself.

I also used to photograph the Twin Towers regularly, doing that had a bit of the opposite effect. So grand and photogenic were those buildings, one would think he or she was just maybe the very best photographer in the world.

Alexandra and I are expecting a baby any day now. At a party recently someone said, "Yikes, I hope it's not born on September 11th!" Someone else cut in, "Actually, I think that would be the most beautiful thing. That day needs more souls."

I leave you with that as I head out on a jog on this special day.

Enjoy the poem and pix above.

Go, go, go...

Children in the Park

(Click pic quick for juicy view)

("Children In The Park", 6/09, MTL)

Children in the Park
Like children in the park we make our way
Like soldiers in the field we feel pain
Walk ahead, find the path
Before the dark comes light to pass

We're old, we hurt
Look at the alternative...
It's work
Lying in the dust, it's work
Like children in the park, it's work
Like children in the park we make our way
Like children in the park we make our way

Welcome and welcome back to Ez Sez.

'Glamour Guts'

Check out my awesome Halifax friend Jasmine Oore's 3 minute short film 'Glamour Guts' (watch it here).

Her touching and wacky comedy about life with bowel disease is one of 3 final films in the running at a big CBC short film contest.

Update: Thanks to all who voted for the film during the voting period. The film won first prize. Jasmine is already at work on her next film with the help of the generous CBC prize.

Will Hollywood Get This Man To Play Ed McMahon?! ...for free!

(Montreal man who looks a little like Ed McMahon, no?)

I was out at a café in Montreal the night after Ed McMahon passed away. By strange coincidence there was a man ordering a coffee who was talking about Ed McMahon's death and he looked so much like Ed McMahon.

The following is a short video interview I shot with this fine man on a small Flip Ultra camcorder I've started carrying around in my bag for times like these!

Will this man get the call from Hollywood to play Ed McMahon in a biopic? And will he take on the role for free?! Watch the video to find out...

Enjoy the new video. You can watch it HERE.

(The real Ed McMahon)

Be well and thanks for dropping by EzSez.com!

On Musical Discoveries

("Leonard", 5/31/09, Ottawegian Valley)

To make a long story short,
A couple of years back I got my first iPod
I loaded it up with lots of Leonard Cohen songs
My first batch of Leonard Cohen music
What the heck
Hadn't known his stuff much before
(Was always on the Dylan side of the fence)
Next day, I listened to the Leonard Cohen tunes carefully on a flight to L.A.
What do you know...
Found it to be excellent
"So that's what people are raving about," I thought
Stepped off the plane
There he was walking by the baggage carousel
I couldn't resist
"Pardon me, Mr. Cohen...
I'm a nice Jewish boy from Montreal like you
To make a long story short, I got a new iPod yesterday
I loaded it up with lots of your music
My first batch of your music
Hadn't known your stuff much before
And here you are! Wow!
I just wanted to say:
Mazel tov on all that fine music."

He laughed, thanked me and walked on.

Sounds like one of those weird dreams, but it's true.

Here's to musical discoveries coming at just the right time.

UPDATE: My friend Gnome who's on a scooter from Edmonton to Montreal I write this, adds: "Ez, this reminds me of when I put Joni Mitchell's documentary on my iPod Touch last summer and... boom... synchronicity. Wowza. True that, Ez."

Smashy-internashy

("Closed Rose", 5/2/09, Ottowegian Valley, Ezra S.)

I thought of a new expression today... It goes something like this:

Smashy-internashy

It means super duper.

Once I thought of a word in French:

Cardinalement

It means absolutely everywhere, or towards all cardinal points.

OK, must run. Have fun!
